AI Can Do a Surprisingly Good Job of Researching Someone Before You Meet Them

A few minutes of AI-assisted research before a meeting can make the conversation much better, provided you keep facts and assumptions separate.

Before a meeting with somebody new, AI can now do a surprisingly useful first pass of the homework.

Give it the person’s name, company and role, then ask it to pull together what is publicly known about the business, what appears to be changing, and the areas that might actually be relevant to the conversation. If you already have emails or notes, add those too.

The useful extra instruction is to separate facts from assumptions. Tell it not to guess somebody’s priorities just because of their job title. Ask it what it would want to verify in the meeting.

Five minutes of that before a call can be more useful than opening ten browser tabs and hoping you spot the important thing.
